My second surf lesson ever, in cold water again, seals that don't like being filmed, and packing for Kruger.

The colourful beach huts of Muizenberg

The sixth chapter of the South Africa trip, and the last day in Cape Town before Kruger.

A surf lesson in Muizenberg

In the morning we went to Muizenberg, a beach on the False Bay coast with colourful beach huts. It’s a popular place for first surf lessons. The girls didn’t want to take a lesson, but I gave it a go: a private one-hour lesson with a board and wetsuit cost 600 rand (≈ $37).

It was my second surf lesson ever, the first was in Morocco. For some reason I only ever learn to surf in cold water. Oh well.

I never managed to stand up on the board, but it was an interesting experience. Thanks to the instructor, but I think surfing just isn’t my thing.

Seals in Kalk Bay

The plan for the day also included the Zeitz MOCAA museum of contemporary art, but not everyone was interested. We decided to come back later, maybe after the holiday.

Instead we stopped by the seals in Kalk Bay, a fishing harbour next door. The seals lie there, swim and just chill, and you can come and see them any time.

One seal didn’t like being filmed and ran in our direction. It didn’t run for long. We backed off straight away. But be careful and don’t go close to them: seals can attack.

Then we walked around the neighbourhood for a bit, had lunch and went home to pack. The next stop is Kruger.
