Kayaks in the narrow Tsitsikamma gorge between tall cliffs

The tenth chapter of the South Africa trip: the last big day on the Garden Route.

Diving with fur seals

Early in the morning I went on my own to dive with the seals with Pro Dive Plettenberg Bay. There’s honestly nothing difficult about it: you just sit underwater, and there are seals all around. They dart about, bite the camera, bite the regulator: they play. We were underwater for about twenty minutes.

It’s truly an unforgettable experience.

If you don’t dive, you can go snorkelling and swim with the seals or watch them from a boat. I think that’s a great option too: the seals will still play with you and nibble your fins. A very interesting way to spend time.

A sweet cottage in Storms River

The dive was early in the morning, so right after it we drove to Tsitsikamma, a national park on the coast with forest and deep gorges. We stayed in the village of Storms River, in a sweet cottage.

Kayaks and lilos in the gorge

Then we went to the park. Not everyone went kayaking: just me and one friend. We paddled in kayaks between the walls of the gorge, and then floated on lilos, inflatable mattresses. We also jumped into the water from a small height, about two metres. It was fun.

A pebble as a keepsake

Our cottage had a tradition: every guest leaves a coloured pebble and writes something kind on it. We left ours too. And in the morning we drove back to George, and flew to Cape Town from there.
