A sunset over the Waterfront harbour, seen from a yacht

The food in Cape Town is very good, both in restaurants and in shops. Here are the places that stuck in our memory over two months, and one outing that didn’t fit into the other articles.

In short

Hudsons

Hudsons is our favourite burger place, and we went there many times. In Claremont specifically. When we went to the Hudsons in Green Point, it wasn’t the same. I don’t know why: whether Green Point’s is worse or Claremont’s is just especially good.

Mamacita’s

The Mexican restaurant Mamacita’s was good. And I especially liked the non-alcoholic jalapeño cocktail: it really tastes of jalapeño. I strongly recommend it to anyone who likes spicy food.

Tiger’s Milk

Tiger’s Milk is a restaurant chain popular in Cape Town. We went there after Kirstenbosch.

Oranjezicht City Farm Market

The Oranjezicht City Farm Market (OZCF) is a farmers’ market next to the Waterfront. Since December 2025 it has operated in the Breakwater Pavilion. The market is open only on certain days, so check the schedule on its website before you go.

They sell local things here: there are little restaurants, produce, clothes. A really cool market. A bit overcrowded, but it’s fine.

A sunset yacht and Time Out Market

On 13 February we went on a yacht ride from the Waterfront. It was fun: a sunset, light music, and each person gets two glasses of champagne, or juice for those who don’t drink. We bought tickets in advance; it came to about 621 rand (≈ $39) per person.

When it got dark, we strolled around the Waterfront and had dinner at the Time Out Market food court.
